How to Make the Perfect Cup of Matcha

Start by warming your bowl and soaking the bamboo whisk tines in warm water for a minute so they stay soft and flexible. Sift one teaspoon of matcha into the bowl to break up clumps, then pour in about two ounces of water heated to around 175 F, since boiling water can make matcha taste bitter. Whisk briskly in a W or zigzag motion, not in circles, for 15 to 20 seconds until a fine layer of foam forms on top. Enjoy it straight as a traditional usucha, or pour it over ice or steamed oat milk for a matcha latte. Rinse the whisk in warm water after each use and let it air dry on its end.
