Copper has a natural preservation quality called Patina, which protects the copper from outside elements. Patina refers to the color change in copper ;and some other elements, resulting in a brown or green pigment. Patina forms in a process like rusting, which is caused when iron is exposed to oxygen and water. In order to remove the tarnish from your copper caused by natural forming Patina (coppers natural protection) , take a small soft bristled toothbrush and apply ketchup. Gently rub copper chain or copper wrapped pendant with toothbrush, allowing all copper to be coated in ketchup. Continue to brush until you see tarnishing starting to remove. Rinse with water (preferably with sink sprayer). Pat dry and enjoy the shine!
Fun fact: the low acidity levels and salt in ketchup causes copper oxide (patina) to dissolve. This makes restoration easy with an at home diy!
